The black veil, though it only covers our pastor's face, throws its influence over his whole person, and makes him ghostlike from head to foot.
The reason why I chose this statement is because it gives us information about what the black veil means. The black veil means that it hides his dark side. It hides a face that has done something wrong or evil. The influence that made him do this has captured him and taken him away from society. This statement helps us know what the black veil means and also gives us a reason on why Hooper is wearing the black veil.
